As the author here is my own top 10, it'll be interesting to see if you agree or not.
10.Rhae kills Caravious D'jem and frees the Legionnaire army
-This was the moment we realised who Rhaenerys was and what she was capable of. Her trickery of Caravious cemented her as a threat, and now she had an army at her behest - it surely spelt trouble for whomever was in her path.
9.Rhae's visions of everything and the throne room in ash???Or snow???
-The vision is great, all the doors she opens is like doors in her mind as she's going deeper and deeper into her mind, seeing deeper things. Everything starts off as abstract and then it all becomes grounded in some level of reality. The visions are thought provoking and then of the throne room beind destroyed certainly makes us think for the future.
8.Rhaenerys's first chapter, and the dragons meeting in the air.
-The introduction to Rhaenerys paints her as a dominant figure, the way she takes what she wants from the city and then flies around. Certainly the final description of the three dragons flying with each other sends a foreboding feel towards the reader, what could possibly stop them?
7.Jamie speaks about why he killed Orson Casterly.
-I would think that our reader wouldn't like Jamie but this moment puts a lot of insight into him. He twists our entire perception of him and what the biggest insult he gets actually means. He's seen as a villain for something a hero would be praised for. And the anger we see through him, certainly we see his pride too about how he was judged - and his pride adds to it.
6.Ambush at the Fist.
-Did anyone think The Others were going to attack at the Fist? The arguments with Ravven are good but it goes onto another level when they realise how doomed they are; i like the sudden contrast of the arguments into the 'oh shit forget about them, just get to safety'. There's the deaths of Stanford, Sara, Eilseo, Tup, Ravven as well, plenty of bodies fall and we realise how big of a menace The Others are. Ravven just really ups his shithousery this chapter too.
5.Jamie speaks about Queen Syrell.
-I like the contrast and exploration shown by Jamie here, he's being terrible to Valerie and horrible and rude but then he contrasts it in an emotional piece about the queen he served. It changes our perception and actually shows that there is something good in people that are bad, it's not always as black and white as it may seem to be. The way Jamie speaks is so tender and to see a proud man like him cry tears remembering the queen seriously interrupts our prejudices.
4.Gerold and Samalah meet each other again.
-Samalah had been ducking him for a while and it comes to blows. The way Gerold and her back and forth is so organic and great, and seeing Gerold act as an normal boy of his age was cute to see. Samalah brings out the child in him and they do really fit together with one another. The little arguments about the stars and the snow are perfect.
3.Gerold and Samalah in the pool.
-When they are together there are sparks that fly off. Gerold abandons a Celtigan Steel sword for her, and the two express their vulnerabilites to one another. It's fast and in haste and Gerold feels it too, but to know that someone would throw everything just for you certainly makes us see their relationship as something deeper. We are also forced to look at the wider scope, will Samalah and Gerold be allowed to love in any place lest the cave?
2.Aeyron and Alice speak on their struggles.
-At this point Aeyron is failing, he needs someone and Alice is there. Just a simple talk from one heart to another. Aeyron's been alone for so long and it's nice to see someone like Alice unlocking the heart beneath him, and I'm pretty sure as you read this you can see Alice and Aeyron slowly beginning to love one another even more.
1.Massacre at WhiteHaven.
-What can I say? The full might of The Others are shown and they destroy and kill everything.
