-What do we know about The Others and The Long Night?
-Aeyron tells us the long night was 8,000 years ago and that mysterious figures wielding the night came from far, far north.
-The weather was so harsh that children were born frozen and kings froze in their castles.
-Then from the Lands of Always Winter the Others had come.
-Dead men followed them with skin black as night and crystal blue eyes which pierced through men’s hearts but the Others had been the opposite. White as the moon and said to be majestic, their swords long thin strips of ice.
-They went around riding giant ice spiders travelling south and south.
-They were only defeated when the ‘First Hero’ wielded the absent sun and drove them back from whence they came.
So what we can tell so far is that following an extremely harsh winter where people die, the Others came riding south. They had their undead army with them, riding giant ice spiders and they kept coming south and south. The humans fought The Others and someone called The First Hero weaponised the sun and forced them back from where they came from.
The common mistake in the world Crowns and Corpses is that The Others were killed and made extinct, that's what they commonly believe. But the First Hero forced the, back to The Lands of Always Winter.
-What do we know about The Others?
-Whenever The Others come they appear with no sound
-A mist forms whenever they are near, and when they are extremely close the mist is very strong.
-The temperature drops to where tears can freeze
-We know that one Other stands at 6'6"
-They don't appear to have skin, just one body that glimmers and changes shades of blue. But perhaps Raymar(our POV at the time) had mistaken It's body for armour.
-They seem to almost hover when They walk
-They carry a non-human weapon, a long shard of crystal as long as one of Their arms which seems to smoke the air
-Normal steel swords fail to penetrate The Others
-Normal steel swords shatter on contact with The Others' weapons
-The Others can speak, they can atleast laugh
-They have ice blue eyes
So we can tell that The Others aren't human, They are very tall and are proficient with Their sword. In what little appearance They have in the first book They are unstoppable, experienced Northerners fail to kill Them - we must also consider that regular steel is unable to kill Them.
The Others have returned for a reason but why? Why after 8,000 years? Who is the First Hero who defeated Them? Where They killed at first but now reborn? Like the supposed dragons, where They extinct but have now returned?? I guess you'll have to find out in the next couple of books.
